The Gran Teatro de la Habana

March 22, 2018 Havana, Cuba

I am so excited to share snippets of my recent trip to Cuba with all of you! This was my first time traveling to the island and though, at times, I must admit, I experienced a bit of sensory overload, this was truly an unforgettable trip.

I wanted to share a few snapshots from my visit to the Gran Teatro de la Habana because it was just so breathtaking. This theatre first opened in 1915 and is home to Cuba's National Ballet company. Located in the Galician Centre of Havana, you will find a concert hall, conference rooms, theatres, a choral center, as well as an art gallery featuring Cuban artists' work.

Alicia Alonso is a beloved Cuban prima ballerina assoulta- an honour reserved only for the most exceptional dancers of their generation (there are currently only 12 in the world). Alonso's desire to develop ballet in Cuba led her to found the Ballet Nacional de Cuba.

She was an exceptional talent, able to perform despite becoming partially blind at a young age; Alonso used lights placed in different parts of the stage to guide her during performances. And let us not forget, she also gave her last live performance at the age of 74! How incredible!

The main entrance to The Gran Teatro.

Named after Federico García Lorca, the García Lorca Auditorium comfortably seats 1,500 bodies. Over the years, seating in the auditorium has been adjusted to seat more, but with the most recent change, it was agreed upon that 1,500 may be the number best suited for the space. The García Lorca Auditorium provides a stage for dances and musical performances as it was graced with some of the most talented and well-known artists of the 19th & 20th century!

The artist behind this mural remains unknown to this day...

This space sits on the 3rd level of the building, providing a home for musical performances...

This marble palace was a sight to behold and a "must-see" if you are planning on visiting Havana, but it was only the first stop on my trip. I will be sharing much more from my trip with you all in upcoming posts, so be sure to Subscribe to my blog so you don't miss out on the Havana experience! I am also thinking about uploading a little vlog with all off my footage from the trip, as well as sharing my travel tips, so be sure to keep an eye out if that is something that peaks your interest. :)

Until then, let me know of your 1st time travel experiences. Where did you go? What did you do on your trip?

xoxo
